It’s funny, so often people say the one color they try to stay away from is yellow, but 2018 changed that for many. Starting with the spring runways, mustard yellow began to show up everywhere. Not only did the color transcend the runways and into streetwear, but mustard has not left the stores yet. Mustard Yellow has stayed extremely popular for the fall. Don’t worry if you didn’t jump on the mustard train in the spring, it’s not too late now.
Usually, if you are apprehensive about trying a new trend, the best way to subtly start is through accessories. Being that fall just began, some good pieces would be a mustard knit scarf or a crossbody purse. Right now, there is a never-ending amount of ways to style this color.
Playful patterns are in tons of stores at the moment. Some floral patterns have mustard in them, but now there are numerous plaid mustard fabrics. A perfect fall look would be some fun plaid pants with mustard accents in them, paired with an oversized comfy sweater.
Speaking of sweater weather, stores like Topshop have multiple styles of mustard-colored sweaters right now. From crewnecks to cardigans, the color is available in any style. Also in terms of colder weather, stores like Madewell and J. Crew have statement jacks that come in mustard. These are perfect to stand out in a big city from the typical black and brown coats.
Mustard yellow has been used by designers to incorporate multiple trends together. You can find mustard paperboy caps, mustard combined with animal print, mustard mules, loafers, and platform sandals. Really the color offers endless possibilities. The key with adding a new color to your wardrobe is to find some type of style you already like and begin to mix it in. For me, I started, with my favorite black and white patterned pants and added in a mustard top. It elevated the outfit and made the pattern pop more.
This shade of yellow has been everywhere this year, and it is definitely here to stay for a bit longer. So don’t be afraid to add some mustard to your look!
