Shopping tours have been around for many years. It’s an organized day out with fellow avid shoppers, or your own group of friends and family. You all meet at the same location to jump on a bus and be driven to designated factory outlets and stores to shop till you drop! Well in 2019 with sustainability at the forefront of discerning consumers’ minds, as well as fashion designers and the movers & shakers of the fashion industry – the ‘eco’ shopping tours are proving to be the way of the future.
Recycled fashion lovers and sustainable stylists (myself included) are hosting and running their own thrifted fashion shopping tours in their local areas. Either on foot (which is preferable as there is no carbon footprint!), or with transport provided, we are taking groups of keen shoppers to our favorite op shops and proving that secondhand style is most certainly not second best. We educate on the impact our fast fashion habits are having on the environment, as well as offering personal styling advice and store discounts.
After shopping up a storm we end with a great lunch and drinks to chat about all our fashion finds for the day and exchange contact details for the newly formed friends we’ve made. These tours are gaining momentum nationally. Great for already converted op shoppers or those new to the thrifting game – it’s a whole new world of designer pieces, high end labels, vintage and on trend items for so much less than RRP, not to mention the charities you’re supporting in the process.
Check out your own local area, to see if these tours are happening where you are and if not start your own! It’s a super fun day out with friends and family. It’s also a different idea for your typical hens party, birthday, Mother’s Day or Christmas idea. With a lot of hosts offering gift vouchers and complimentary eco goodie bags to group members, it’s a fabulous idea. One person can make a difference, and every person should try. Promoting environmentally friendly, charitable, good karma shopping with purpose and good intentions. There really is no rest for the thrifted.
