Move over color and cut, the new focus for fashion is texture, texture, texture. Creating a distinctive and stylish look this season is all about selecting one stand out item in a rich, texture-heavy fabric. Doing this communicates confidence, style know how and a zero f’s given attitude. There is nothing wrong with being a little extra.
Teddy – The teddy coat is one of the number one looks for those in colder climates. This look works well in long line cuts as well as cropped bomber styles and for the warmer months, try a teddy lined hood on a light denim jacket or a teddy lined bag. This fabric has a nomadic traveler feel to it, conjuring images of road trips, camping and escaping to foreign places. Style with distressed denim and vintage tee’s or go high glam with leather pants and boots.
Faux Fur – Not for the demure or subtle, a faux fur coat is bold, confident and fashion forward. If the weather is not permitting such coziness, a faux fur vest is another option, or go even lighter with a faux fur bag or shoe detail. Muted colors have been pushed to the side as rainbow furs take over, with star patterns, mixed tones and rainbows take over.
Velvet – Oh-so-luxurious, velvet is the perfect way to make a simple design seem extravagant. An LBD (little black dress) might seem like a boring or safe choice but if it is a rich black velvet, suddenly it speaks volumes of style. To make the most of velvet, off set it with some edge – think studded boots, a hardwear bag or a high ponytail with a berry lip.
